You know that feeling when you’re staring at a 2-acre property and someone tells you a robot mower will handle it? You laugh. Then they say it’s $4,299 and you laugh harder. Then they tell you it doesn’t need a boundary wire and you stop laughing because now you’re curious.

Here’s the thing nobody tells you in the marketing material: this is not like GPS in your car. The reference station is doing a lot of heavy lifting. You place it on a roof, a fence post, or somewhere with a clear view of the sky. The mower then uses that station to correct its position down to centimeter-level accuracy.

I was skeptical as hell because my property has a dense tree line along the western edge. The first time I set it up, I thought I’d be spending a weekend troubleshooting signal dropouts. Instead, the setup took about 45 minutes. Want the backyard cut every day but the front yard only twice a week? Done in two taps.

You can also create “no-go zones” that the mower will physically avoid. This is huge for us because I have a small patch of wildflowers that I’m trying to encourage, and I don’t want the mower to shred them. I drew a circle around that patch in the app, and the mower steers around it every single time. The precision is honestly kind of spooky. The other thing is the app’s dependency on cloud services. If Husqvarna’s servers go down, you might struggle to connect to the mower. In practice, this has happened to me once in three months, and it resolved itself in about 20 minutes. But it’s a reminder that you’re relying on a subscription-free service that could theoretically change its terms.

Look, this mower costs four grand. That’s not a casual purchase.
